Privacy Policy
Our Commitment to Privacy
StatLearn is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe in transparency and giving you complete control over your data.
What Data We Collect
Short answer: Almost nothing.
- No user accounts: We don't require registration or login
- No personal information: We don't collect names, emails, or any identifying information
- No calculation data on servers: All calculations happen in your browser
- Anonymous analytics only: We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand site usage (see below)
Local Storage
StatLearn stores some data locally in your browser to enhance your experience:
- Calculation History: Your past calculations are saved in IndexedDB on your device so you can review them later
- User Preferences: Settings like theme preferences are stored in localStorage
- You control this data: You can clear it anytime through your browser settings
- It never leaves your device: This data is never sent to our servers
Analytics
We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. This helps us improve StatLearn.
What Ahrefs collects:
- Pages you visit on StatLearn
- Time spent on pages
- Referrer (what site sent you here)
- General location (country/city level, not exact address)
- Device type and browser
What Ahrefs does NOT collect:
- Personal identifying information
- Your calculation inputs or results
- Tracking cookies (Ahrefs is cookie-free)
- Cross-site tracking data
How Calculations Work
All statistical calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript libraries:
- Your input data never leaves your device
- No server-side processing of your calculations
- Results are generated instantly on your device
- Works offline once the page is loaded
Sharing Your Results
When you click the "Share" button on a calculator:
- Your calculation parameters are encoded into the URL
- Anyone with the URL can see those specific parameters and results
- No data is sent to our servers - it's all in the URL
- Only share URLs with people you trust with that calculation data
Cookies
StatLearn does not use cookies. We rely on localStorage and IndexedDB for local data storage, and Ahrefs Analytics does not use cookies.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Ahrefs Web Analytics: Privacy-focused analytics (see Analytics section above)
- Vercel: Hosting provider (does not collect user data)
- CDNs: For serving JavaScript libraries (Chart.js, D3.js, etc.) - no data collection
Children's Privacy
StatLearn is safe for all ages. Since we don't collect personal information, there are no special considerations for children's privacy. However, we recommend adult supervision for young users to help them understand statistical concepts.
Your Rights and Controls
You have complete control over your data:
- View: Access your calculation history within the app
- Delete: Clear history through the app or browser settings
- Export: Download your calculation history (coming soon)
- Opt-out of analytics: Use browser extensions like uBlock Origin to block analytics
Data Security
Since all calculations happen locally and we don't store your data on servers, your calculation data is as secure as your device. We use HTTPS to ensure secure communication with our servers when loading the application.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date of the last update is shown at the bottom of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the homepage.
Educational Use Disclaimer
StatLearn is designed for educational and informational purposes. While we strive for accuracy, our calculators should not be used as the sole basis for critical decisions in professional, medical, financial, or legal contexts. Always consult with qualified professionals for important decisions.
