Understanding Percentiles

Percentile: A percentile indicates the value below which a percentage of observations fall. For example, the 75th percentile is the value below which 75% of the data falls.

Quartiles:

  • Q1 (25th percentile): 25% of data falls below this value
  • Q2 (50th percentile/median): Middle value of the dataset
  • Q3 (75th percentile): 75% of data falls below this value

IQR (Interquartile Range): Q3 - Q1, represents the middle 50% of the data

Outliers: Values that fall below Q1 - 1.5×IQR or above Q3 + 1.5×IQR
